Life. Made Great!

Financial planning for people who want to make the most of life, not simply accumulate wealth.

Independent financial planning to help you understand what you have, what you need and what is possible — so you can make important decisions about your future with confidence.

Based in Chester and Longridge, Lancashire.

Why Blue Sky Exists

Over nearly four decades in financial services, I’ve learned that people rarely come to me because they want a pension, an ISA or an investment portfolio.

They come because they’re facing an important decision, a life change or a question about the future.

Experience has also taught me that time is every bit as valuable as money. Financial security matters enormously, but so does making good use of the life you’ve worked so hard to create.

That’s why Blue Sky focuses on people first and money second.

WHY CHOOSE BLUE SKY FAMILY WEALTH MANAGEMENT

Life Before Money

Money is important, but only because of what it allows you to do. We help you understand your options, gain confidence in your decisions and make the most of the years ahead.

Retirement With Confidence

The most active years of retirement often pass more quickly than people expect. We help you understand what's affordable, so you can make the most of your time, health and freedom.

Guiding Life's Big Decisions

Retire now or work a little longer? Help the children today or leave an inheritance later? Spend more, invest more or simply keep more in reserve? We help you understand the consequences of the choices available to you, so you can make them with confidence.

Genuinely Independent

We aren't tied to particular investment companies or financial products. Our job is to understand you first, consider the options available and recommend what we believe is right for you and your family.

Our Services

Family and Legacy Planning

Sometimes money can make a bigger difference to your family today than it ever will as an inheritance.

We help you explore what you can afford to give, when it could have the greatest impact, and how to do it without compromising your own financial security — while also planning carefully for inheritance tax and the legacy you eventually leave behind.

Questions We Help Families Answer

You can get by on surprisingly little. But is that really how you want to live?

For some people, a great life means simple pleasures, inexpensive hobbies and time with family. For others, it means travelling the world, eating out, expensive interests or helping their children and grandchildren.

There is no right answer. Your version of a great life is individual to you.

So, before we reach for the numbers, we’ll spend time understanding what really matters to you — and perhaps challenge you to think about what you would do if you knew you could afford it.

Only once we’ve done that very human part do we turn to the technology, using cashflow modelling to explore different scenarios and help answer the question that really matters:

Have I got enough to live the life I actually want?

Working another year will probably leave you with more money. Another year’s salary, perhaps more pension contributions, and one less year drawing on your savings.

We can use cashflow modelling to help illustrate the difference another year could make. But then comes the more difficult question: do you actually need the extra money?

Over the years, I’ve seen too many people have their plans changed by ill health or lose someone far earlier than they ever expected. None of us knows how many healthy, active years we have ahead of us.

Sometimes another year of work really is important. It can make a meaningful difference to your future financial security.

But sometimes you may already have enough, and another year could simply mean accumulating more money you may never spend — at the cost of a year you can never get back.

At Blue Sky, we’ll help you understand which situation you’re in, so you can make that decision with your eyes open.

For many parents, the question isn’t whether they want to help their children, but how much they can afford to give without compromising their own future.

We can help you explore different amounts and timings, while considering Inheritance Tax, available tax allowances and whether an outright gift or trust might be appropriate.

But there’s a human side too. Should children be treated equally or fairly? What if circumstances or relationships change? And are you comfortable giving up control of the money?

At Blue Sky, we’ll help you bring the financial, tax and emotional sides together — so you can decide how much to give, when to give it and the most appropriate way to do it.

The possibility of needing care worries many people. How much could it cost? Would you have to pay for it yourself? What might happen to your home — and would there still be something left for your family?

Care funding can be complicated, so we’ll help you understand how the system works, what support may be available and the different ways care could be funded.

We can then build potential care costs into your financial planning and explore how your finances might cope if care is needed.

Most importantly, we’ll help you find the balance between planning sensibly for a future that might happen, without sacrificing the life you can enjoy today.

After nearly 40 years in financial services, I’ve helped lots of people reach the point where the question is no longer simply “Can I afford it?” but “What do I actually want from the years ahead?”

Drawing on that experience — and some of my own — I can help you uncover the people, experiences and things that matter most to you, and perhaps some you haven’t really thought about yet.

Then we can look at how your money can help you make more of them happen.

It may be the question we find hardest to ask.

We can’t protect the people we love from the pain of losing us. But we can help make sure they don’t have to face financial uncertainty at the same time.

We’ll look at what would really happen if you weren’t here — the income your family would have, what they would inherit, what bills or commitments would remain and where any financial gaps might be.

From there, we can help you put appropriate plans in place, whether through pensions, investments, protection, wills, trusts or Inheritance Tax planning.

We can’t make loss any easier. But we can help make sure money isn’t another thing your family has to worry about when it happens.
